Hello everyone
I want to start studying switched power supplies and ask for help to indicate which is the best book on this subject for anyone who is starting out.
Thank you all for helping me.

Hi,

Wow, looks like you really covered the bases there spec.
And to think i was going to say, "look online" :)
Hi MrAl,

Switch mode power supplies are a devil to understand, and there does not seem to be one book that covers the basics thru to a high level. Often the best way to grasp a difficult subject is to read about it described from different angles and pick out the bits that gel- the scatter gun approach.:)

I hope all the data does not overwhelm the OP who does not seem to have had much luck with the same question on other sites.:D

One of the problems is that there does not seem to be one book that goes from the basics of switch mode power supplies thru to a high level, so it seemed best to let the OP do what I do in such cases and mix and match from various sources.

Have a look at my website. I wrote it to enable people to get a real basic understanding of dc/dc converters. As spec says, they can get really complicated, but the basics are really quite straight forward:
www.simonbramble.co.uk

If you really want to know it in depth, Switching Power Supply Design by Pressman, Billings and Morey: isbn 978-0-07-148272-1

Also, if you want to play (and this is the only way to really learn) LTspice will enable you to put theory into practice without heating up a soldering iron

Hi,

Yes some good points, and just to be clear, i was commending you on the thoroughness of your answer.

I would also like to add that my recommendation for someone who never looked into switching type converters would be that they should start with the buck (step down) converter as they are the easiest to understand out of the whole bunch.

Thanks- I did get your meaning.:)

That is a good observation- buck converters are the simplest to understand and probably the easiest to design as well.

The fundamentally important thing, when studying switch mode power supplies, is to understand how an inductor and capacitor work and how they store energy. The formula, Q = IT = CV = VL = LI is the lynch pin.
