switch power between 2 circuits

Hello,
Is there an easy way to switch power between 2 circuits?
I mean, when the circuits are powered up, only one of them is, and after some time, the power is switched off for the circuit that was initially on, and the other one powers up.
Can this be done with transistors driven by some logic that tells when to switch?? Or maybe better with a realy circuit??

Thank you!

Start with an astable multivibrator made from two transistors. If you require two different voltages, you may need a relay or a transformer.

If both devices require the same voltage, then an astable multivibrator will do. Look for one that blinks LED's and replace the LED's with the two separate units you want to power.

you might want to include a voltage divider network at the outputs of the multivibrator, (or at least a diode as the coupler) because if you don't your device(s) might suck up so much power from the multivibrator, it will stay in one state forever.

Both circuits use 5V, but one of them consumes quite lot of current (more than 1.2A). Is there any problem with that?

The switch has only to be done once, from one of the circuits, to another, and that's it. What about a 555 monostable??
