Standard Power Supply for PIC in Noisy Environment (image attached)

Need to feed a PIC with a fairly clean Power Supply. This will not have a specific purpose, but rather for different projects involving motorcycles and lighting leds or small lcd displays.

What should I change on the attached schematic?

The diode is backwards, but other than that it looks ok. Also make sure you put a decoupling cap right at the VDD pins of any ICs, including the pic.

Hi,

Your design is really just a basic regulator circuit, for use on a bike you really need some extra protection - think other members are better qualifed to advise on that than me.

First though, to correct your current diagram, your regulator is rated at 500ma, so your fuse should be 500ma slow blow . The diode shown is only rated at 100ma so you need something like a 1N4001, also you have it shown the wrong way round , so no curent will flow at all.

I usually use an automotive spec'ed LDO which has things like reverse current protection and overvoltage protection built in.

I should have caught the diode direction before I posted. I will also change that to a larger 1 A 1N1001.

The VR that I have posted should be an automotive type regulator.

In the thread (https://www.electro-tech-online.com/threads/power-for-automotive-circuits.103137/), the OP shows 2 inductors being used. Are those necessary?

The datasheet for the TS2937 does not say anything that would lead me to think it is suitable for use on autos.

I doubt automakers are using inductors (Please correct me if I am wrong).
