SPI micro SD reader module voltage

I'd consider that to be one for 5V external logic - as you say, it has a 3.3V regulator, and apparently level converters for the SD signals to 5V.

There are plenty of plain socket adapter modules if you have a device that is already using 3.3V

eg. There are three different versions in this listing that are direct 3.3V modules..
 
After some research I have come to the conclusion that you have to power this module at 5V and its data lines are at 3.3V so the can be directly connected to both 5V and 3.3V (Arduino) boards GPIO pins.
