I searched a bit in the internet and stumbled over a movie close to reality (at least the film story).
It's about the civil war in former Yugoslawia, Serbia, Bosnia, Herzogina and a minority of Muslims. For those who don't have a clue about the geographical position: It's the land mass East of the Adriadic Sea from Italy.
There were NATO members trying to keep peace between war parties with lots of deaths on each side.
The USA had several aircraft carriers stationed in the Adriatic Sea for reconnaissance flights of their F18 Super Hornet aircraft.
Their main purpose was observing DMZs and report military activities within such zones.
The movie title is: "BEHIND ENEMY LINES".
Main actors: 1 F18, bragging NATO Naval Commander, (Admiral of the "Grande Nation" with it's "Force attrappe" (Force de frappe) , Commander of the Battle group on USS "Carl Vinson", Admiral Leslie Reigart, Gene Hackman, First pilot Jeremy Stackhouse, "Smoke", Gabriel Macht, Second pilot Chris Bernett, "Longhorn", Owen Wilson.
Story: The aircraft crew spotted a large vehicle concentration in the DMZ and set course there to check what was going on. They activated a new digital camera and shot pictures without knowing what they actually had taken pictures of.
Shortly after the first target pass they had to defeat two heat seeking SAM, fired in short sequence. They could outmaneuver one missile, but the second one hit the aircraft seriously to have the crew bail out. (Remarkable: Those SAMs seem to have dog fight capabilities since they were outmaneuvered several times before hit.
An interesting detail: A modern aircraft like the F18 seems to have outdated ejection seats with manual seat/man separation.
After the crew had landed the first pilot was found first and been shot in his head. The second pilot was finally rescued by Marines.
One detail for audioguru: Check out what a 9V block battery can do. It's amazing and either one is a liar.
