Hi Guys

Some of you will know I have been having a bit of a health battle in recent months with some concerns over the circulation in my legs. I have been suffering Phlebitus for a while now which the warmer weather has very successfully exacerbated to a significant level.

Anyway, I took the dog for a walk round the garden this morning .. .. .. and by the pond I found .. .. ..

It's even the right leg !

Thanks Jim .. .

I'll remember you in my will .. .. .. .
I'll leave you my Mother - in - law :)

She'll be OK, she works part-time as a Test Pilot at the Broom factory :D

Morning Eric

hi S,
Not been to Doncaster since a was a young man [ I was born Rotherham], moved South in1969 to do missionary work.

The image is from the web, sorry about the enormous size if the image.

There was a funny story from the local TV about 25 years ago.
Someone stole a Gnome from a front garden, then for months they kept getting post cards from the gnome, who was apparently travelling around the World.!!

Some months later it reappeared back on the garden.

It was suspected an airline worker was the culprit and was asking his colleagues to post the cards while travelling abroad.:woot:

My heart goes out to you. Been there and done that. I began to experience pain in my upper legs when walking a long distance, originally around two miles (about 3.2 KM), then about a mile and finally a hundred yards. Finally I went to the doctor who listened with his neat stethoscope and asked me how far I could walk now before pain. Looked at him and told him my mailbox. Went to see a specialist (vascular type guy) and after a few basic test it was pretty apparent I suffered from PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease). I had a few options but in my case major surgery was really the best choice. I also finally after 50 years quite smoking and smoking was a key contributor in my case. They did a major bypass of my abdominal arteries down my legs. That was a few years ago (October 3rd marks 3 years) and today I feel good, especially after years of smoking. All my subsequent test now show good blood flow and the heart is doing well. Had I not had the surgery? I would have looked like your Gnome, first one leg, then the second leg.

My dad had one leg done, with a Dacron tube bypassing the artery. Unfortunately he died before he got the second leg done :(, of a major heart attack.

Like you, he was a long term smoker, and it's a common result - he did say it was the first time for as long as he could remember that his toes were warm.

That's it, they use dacron. They did some serious cutting and today I still feel great. Recovery did suck as it hurts. :)

MM ...Big sympathy with your pains, No help with your leg but a few years ago now I had chronic pain in back and top of leg , doc was not much help , he suggested exercise , and paracetamol, I told him I had two allotments , thanked him and left... I think it was sciatica , A lady on BBC radio 4 one day said , A warm bath in stinging nettles ... as a treatment.... I did it was ...

Can you feel the ridges of the tube down your leg? :D
No, but I can feel the large connection right below my breastbone, I have a lump. They began cutting right where the breastbone splits and went around my belly button just about to .... Then on each leg about a 7" cut in the groin. All in all I have been pleased with the end results and all subsequent test reflect good strong blood flow down through the legs. I also take a beta blocker called Bystolic (10 mg). I was fortunate in that I had a great surgical team and they did a real good job.

As far as I'm aware my dad's just went from groin to foot, they only do one at a time so as not to cripple both legs at once :D

You could feel the ridges of the tube (think of a large worm :D) down the inside of his thigh.

They left my legs alone other than where they connected in the groin area for each leg. The legs were OK, my blockage was above the legs where both legs get fed blood. On your dad they did the individual legs or were going to get to the second leg in time.

The big deal for me has been quitting smoking. Tried before and always went back but this time I actually stopped long enough (with help from chantix drug). They told me when they did the surgery if I didn't stop smoking I would just screw up all the work they did.
