The pinout calls the legs of my tl431a transistor "reference" "anode" and "cathode". my schematic calls them "base" "collector" & "emitter" can someone please tell me what equals what, AKA anode=base etc...

A TL431 is an Integrated Circuit; not a transistor. There is no correlation to EBC. Look at the datasheet.

Post the circuit you are trying to build?

thanks Mike, yeah. it's a programmable shunt. figured that out.... gonna buy a 2N3904 from radio shack in the morning**broken link removed**
