Why does a 15W 120V AC ventilator fan , in my posession , run at
full power when it shares a load (a light in paralel) on the AC power circuit ?
Without the shared load it hums and spins very slowly .
thanks in advance

I would suggest you have it wired incorrectly, possibly in series with the light?.

mhh,,

maybe it should be connected in series whit a light..

than you can use a 120VAC 15W light and connected both to 240ACV

and the light gives a better indication of the fan..

when you disconnect the light you supply 240ACV to a 120ACV fan and that doesn't work..

Almost sounds like it's using the light as part of the start winding. Does the motor get warm and hum when the light is out?
I've never seen this done before, but there's lots I've not seen.....

yes , I think it is a single phase induction motor . I have just been informed that it is actually from a portable electric heater .
could the heater have been using the resistance from the heating coils
for starting up ?
