simple digital voltage display

hey,
i am wanting to display the voltage of my car battery on three 7-seg displays( ie. 12.7). The only problem is that i cant really get the A/D to work - not enough understanding. any advice?

You don't mention what processor you're using?.

But if it's a PIC, consult my tutorials.
