A Serial port is not present in a micro controller.A UART/USART module is present.For serial port look at Nigels Tutorials for serial communication.And for the USART/UART module see the data sheet.

Wond3rboy, a UART with access to the micro controllers I/O lines is a serial port... Serial port is a generic term for any port on any device that transmits serial data, it isn't a technical term just commonly used.

Hi Sceadwian,I stand corrected as far as terminology is concerned since a serial port is usually referred to with RS232(DB-9).(Thanks)

What i meant was that PS2,DIN also employ serial data transfer and technically they are called serial ports as well.
