searching for serial to parallel converters

I'm looking for a serial to parallel ic to convert serial data from a basic stamp or pic to drive led displays, switching transistors etc.

I found the SN74LV8153 from TI ( 8 bit serial to parallel )

anyone know of anything similar or is this basically my only option?

The TPIC6595, power logic 8 bit SR, has some useful features for S2P conversion.
