Schmitt Triggers

Are there any devices that use Schmitt Triggers in software based? and are there for hardware? Can you guys please give me examples?

I know Schmitt Triggers can be used in Alarm clocks and Smoke detectors, but those are hardware based. Any software based??

If (Analog_value > upper_limit) then Output = 1 else If (Analog_value < lower_limit) then Output = 0
 
Any microcontroller with a built in ADC or external ADC.

Some microcontrollers have digital inputs with hysteresis. That would still be hardware technically.
