rs485 to rs232 modem

How can i connect to rs232modem from MAX485 chipset?
The connection is MAX485 2-wire to ATEN IC485S convertor to modem. The modem do not have any response. but i have test the cable by logic probe, which response pulse when data pass.

Is there any thing missed? RTS need to be setted?
