Rotor field and Stator field

Hello,
I wanted to understand why the angle between the stator field and the rotor field should be 90 degrees for maximum torque? Just wanted to add it is BLDC motor.
Please advise. Thanks!

When you push on a wrench, do you get maximum torque when your arm is parallel to the wrench, 30-degrees, 60-degrees or 90-degrees to the wrench?
