resistor color code

I have a resistor that has Orange, Orange, Brown, Gold bands of colour.
Is that 33 Ohms or 330 ohms ?

If you memorise the colour code (or look it up) you will see that brown is 1,
that is how many zeroes to add to the end of the number.

So 3, 3, 1 = 330 (one zero added).
 
Correct, and if you have a reliable DMM you can always double check the value on the ohms range.
Sometimes the orange, brown and red can be hard to differentiate on certain batches of R's.
