My son's electric guitar amplifier has a mono, 1/4" phono plug for the input, and that receptacle is soldered on to a circuit board. The jack is broken, and missing the metal sleeve insert, so I think I need to replace it.

I found a replacement part at Radio Shack and it has 2 tabs as I would have expected. (signal and common)
Panel-Mount 1/4" Mono Jack - RadioShack.com

I haven't removed the existing receptacle from the board yet, but it seems to have four contact points with the pcb.

Why four?
Any insights?
Other suggestions?

Thanks,
Nate

They are jack sockets, not phono - they have four connections because they include a switch, whioch shorts the input when there's no plug inserted.

There's not a lot of room there, you could really do with the exact replacement part rather than a generic one.

Thanks for the info.
It helps to search for the right part name. :)

Any suggestions where I might find the exact replacement part?
I tried searching ZGC (com and cn), but came up with a photography site.

Am I on the right track here:
**broken link removed**

??

It seems unlikely that the pins / trace wires would line up though.
I'm not expecting to find the exact replacement part, so I am open to the idea of drilling a new hole in the top or back of the amp, and running / soldering wires to the existing board.

Thanks,

Wow, all three of those links seem to have the correct replacement part - so happy! :D

Any ideas on why the large price variance?

e.g.

$8.99
Fender Standard Amplifier Hardware Mono Amp Jack

$1.60 and $4.70 for the first two items here which look the same to me:

One is "Fender" and the other is a knock-off?

$3.00
**broken link removed**

Not a huge deal - just want to make sure I get the right one.

I like the quote on Angela's site:
"You won't find these on the wall at Radio Shack"

Indeed.

Thanks!

By way of follow-up...
I ordered the new jack from Mojo on Monday night:
**broken link removed**

they shipped it out Tues, and it arrived today.
(Don't you hate it when shipping costs more than the thing you ordered?!)

My son helped me solder it up this evening,
and we were playing guitar before the night was out.

Yes, I did clean the excess flux off the board after taking this picture. :)

Thanks again for all the help, especially "clel miller" for providing the links!
