remote monitoring of temperature

Hi,

let's analyse the headline of your post:

You want:

- temperature display
- remotely

That's what it takes to design a remote thermometer:

Any kind of temperature dependent (probably) semiconductor (sensor), a circuit converting the measured temperature into a readable value (degC, degF), a transmission line (cable or wireless) and a display, either analog or digital.

When you have made up your mind please tell us more.

How about an IR remote reading thermometer? How far is "remote"?

You can buy those cheap little household LCD temperature displays that have an "external" sensor usually with a few metres of wire. They use very severe low pass filtering of the external sensor and make a reading about once every 10 seconds. You can run a very long cable with them because the internal low pass filtering removes any AC noise and the thermistor runs in the 10's of kohms so an extra couple of ohms for a LONG cable shouldn't be a problem.

I've got a few around the house, the remote sensors get stickied onto equipment to see how hot it gets in operation.
