question about Coloumb's law

As everyone knows, the force between two point charges is :
- Along a line joining them
- Directely proportional to the product of Q1,Q2 of charges
- Inversely proportional to the square distance of them

the above words are written based on Coloumb's law

but my question is that why is the force between the chrages along a line ?

hi,
Its of course an 'imaginary' line along which the force is acting.

Its the easiest and the only way to establish a 'datum' for the calculations

Its a case of the path/line of the least resistance to the force.

Is this what you are asking.?:)
