at 18ma the batteries won't last long (16 days using C batteries) at 20ma
Need a way to reduce idle current draw.
with the amp connected the circuit draws 70ma when triggered
19ma idle
SLEEP is not in swordfish help file?
in the tip n tricks from Microchip it mentions the WDT but ??
I was hopeing that disconnecting the amp would help but it still draws 18ma
the voltage regulator is a 2940 LDO 5v+ .
any suggestions
this particular circuit is going to be powered by 6 C cells
Using 6 C cells, to caculate AH ratting do you multiply the battery numbers so instead of 8000mah the battery pak is good for 48000mah? or 100 days

If you need to use a regulator at all, you should probably pick one with less then the 10 to 20 ma quiescent current of that '2940.

How are the batteries connected? Series (9 vdc)?

yes in series
I have another circuit that only uses 4.5v(3-AAA) so there is no regulator. Just a diode to prevent accidentally installing batteries backwards.
I do have some LP2950ACZ regulators -need to review data sheet
