PTZ protocols

Anyone had much to do with PTZ cameras?, I've got a camera to setup with uses Pelco-D protocol, but the DVR only has options for Pelco-D1 and Pelco-D2, so are these compatible, and which should I choose?. Previous DVR's have simply had the option of Pelco-D.

Apparently Pelco-D2 worked, but D1 didn't.

I was watching.. but it flew over my head... Never heard of a Pelco D1 or D2...

Seems as if I'm not the only one..

The only thing I know about Pelco is that I interviewed there more than twenty years ago. Perhaps if they had hired me I could have answered the question.
