Problem with EPIC programmer

I have an EPIC programmer that I've been using for a LONG time. Suddenly last evening it stopped programming chips correctly. At first, it would only write the hex code to the very first address (is that the right word?), 0000, everything else would read as blank (3fff). I wiggled the cable, the programmer, myself, and then it began writing to the first 8 lines of 8 columns, but no more. Everything from address 0400 forward reads as blank.

I'm figuring since everything in a computer is based on the hex system, and from 0000 to 003h is 8 x 8, that the problem is probably in the chip on the programmer, not the cable, and I'm going to need a new programmer. Does that sound feasible? Anybody have any experience with these dinosaurs?

Thanks in advance for your help, guys.

not a good sign

I would check the cable going to the programmer
