Power suppy 8051 using Battery

I have a 9v battery and a 7805 ... so can I use it to supply one 8051 and lcd. Is there any problem associated with it ?

No... just make sure you put the decoupling caps on... the 51 shouldn't take much current.

What about any surge from the battery ?

What surge.... Is the battery charged at the same time? The circuit will consume what it consumes... The only surges will come from relays and high powered transistor switching.
