Potential Divider using LDR

Would the curtain operator be better mains or battery operated?

I'm making a circuit for an automatic dusk/dawn curtain operator. I'll probably use a potential divider, but does anyone know how to apply that to an LDR?

Same as you apply to standard resistors. Afterall LDR is also a resistor but a variable one.
 
Not sure what you're using , but ive built light sensor circuits using LDRs and comparators based on the circuits found on the page in the link below.
