Above is a handful of serial networks. From RS485 to CAN
Which would you be most interested in seeing in a kit, which would be the most useful or practical.

RS232, USB & Ethernet are not part of this poll.

That seems like a really random grouping of standards. Especially considering DMX is actually a protocol sub category of the RS485 standard so there is no difference between implementing RS485 and DMX from a hardware standpoint, there no logical reason not to do both and add a jumper for the two modes or what not. MIDI is of most use to musicians, of which there are so few here to comment that I'd be surprised if it wasn't the last runner up on the pole. CAN is a good second for versatility. I'm not even sure why RS422 is on the list, you'd be better off implementing an Ethernet standard and using passive or active hubs for the multidrop ability, Rs422 hasn't been using in comercial devices since the Mac before 1998 =\

Thanks Sceadwian, it looks like I'll drop the RS422 (poor Aprilaire thermostat is RS422) The CAN is simply because one of the MPUs supports it dsPIC30F4013 same with the MIDI but it'll be bit bashed with the 4013

Looking at (as of this post) RS485+DMX Vs CANthey're pretty even, though CAN edges it out on a single catagory basis. Not really enough voters to say, especially if you're intended to make a commercial product. The number of voters on the post is 10, even statistical uncertantany voids any 'information' you could get from the poll results. You'd need 100 or so people responding (individuals) to have a clue.
