Buy new switches and never use cheap no-name-brand batteries again.
I use Energizer alkaline and Ni-MH batteries for many years and have never had one leak.

I have seen leaking Duracell alkaline batteries.

My old Duracell AA Ni-MH batteries were made in Japan but the new ones have half the capacity and are made in China. They came packaged with a charger that is made in China and sold at Costco.
I thought 4 AAA Ni-MH batteries, 4 AA Ni-MH batteries plus a fast charger is a good deal at the cost a little higher than 4 batteries. But the writing on the poor quality batteries is very small.
