Buy new switches and never use cheap no-name-brand batteries again.
I use Energizer alkaline and Ni-MH batteries for many years and have never had one leak.
My old Duracell AA Ni-MH batteries were made in Japan but the new ones have half the capacity and are made in China. They came packaged with a charger that is made in China and sold at Costco.
I thought 4 AAA Ni-MH batteries, 4 AA Ni-MH batteries plus a fast charger is a good deal at the cost a little higher than 4 batteries. But the writing on the poor quality batteries is very small.
Since they changed their construction MANY years ago, Duracell are one of the worst you can buy for leaking. Prior to that they were great, and never leaked at all.
