Hey folk,
I am in need of a small programmer for a little on-site work, I don't want to lug my Xeltek around with me, so my thoughts immediately turned to the PicKit 2.
As much as I love microchip products, I also love a bargain, which is what brings me to this post.
I opted instead for a clone from Sure Electronics off of fleabay...£17 quid delivered, about a tenner less than from Farnell for the Microchip original. I decided I could live with the 5-7 day delivery time from HongKong.
It arrived today, beautifully packed and in good order. In fact, it really is a clone, right down to the casing, although not just quite the same quality as Microchip's own gear, its damned close.
A quick firmware update later, it performs admirably and without hiccup.
The package also arrived with a spare casing, which, if you are clever can be used for something else useful, and a packet of various headers and cables. It also comes with a small PicKit 2 demo board with a couple of switches and leds on it. In all I think it's a bargain for the money. Anyone in need of a small handy PIC programmer should consider this one along with the Microchip version. I just thought I would share this here
