Hi new here, I have a problem with this chip. I trying to reprogram the chip thru USB. Every time I connect it to my pc I get a device not recognized error. Everything else in the circuit works fine except the programming function. It is set up only using D+, D-, and ground. It also has a 12mhz crystal inline with the usb portion of the circuit. I have tried swapping D+ and D- with no luck. Is there anything else I could try?
 
It's not possible to program a chip via the USB pins....You have to use the programming pins 4, 18 & 19 via a programmer ( pickit2 / 3) or similar
 
Ian he can program it with the usb if he loaded a usb boot loader but he didn't say he did that. No USB boot loader then He needs a programmer to program it
 
This chip is on a circuit board I purchased, I have bought them before! It has software already on the chip, but it has an option for you to connec via USB to ajust your settings. For some reason windows wont recognize it. Im hoping someone could help tell me the best way to trouble shoot this. I can post a picture of it if needed! So, yes it has the USB boot loader loaded.
 
I would really help if maybe post a link to this circuit board

1.If you shorted your usb your pc may not load drivers
2.If it's using CDC serial USB some of them will make a new com port every time it loads and the driver will be looking for a com port Like com4 to com10 and your at com12 and it will not load
