PIC16f84a design project

hello everyone!

i will be working with a design project that can determine the shirt size of the person and find out which store in the mall matches his/her size.. this can be done using a network database and ofcourse PIC16f84a!

My problem is im having a hard time finding a sensor that can measure a person's vital statistic... A teacher of mine suggested the use of light sensor.. the place where the person is being scanned should be close and is lighted so that the sensor can detect the size of the person through his/her shadow..

is there anything u peepz could suggest..;)

An X-ray machine would be best. Don't want bulky coats getting in the way. It can then double as a weapon scanner - should be eligible for government funding under current anti terrorism legislation. Added bonus - it will detect polonium. :eek: :eek:

Hmm, anyone from the UK remember those machines that measured shoe sizes? Its mechanical, but a few strategically placed motor operated 'levers' (poking in very personal places) could be used, either with simple motors and encoders or stepper motors. I'll be big, but I reckon it would work, plus, a PIC could do that with ease.

As for using light.....a PIC could do the scanning of a laser, and use a CMOS camera to pick up the reflection...but a PC would have to be used to get the information, and calculate area (and therefore chest size...waist etc..). The person in question would have to be in their birthday suit as well :eek:

Ultra-sonic distance measuring probably wouldn't be that accurate, and clothes would hinder propagation.

Either way, its a LOT of work. Theres a few random idea's....and after reading it back, the idea of a small robot getting 'jiggy' with a tape measure sounds more feasable. Still, dunno why people have to post pointless replies.

How about an 8x8 matrix of infra-red leds mounted spread-out on a board.

The person stands in front of the board and the pic lights each led in sequence and an infra-red sensor indicates if an led is obscured by the person or not.

This may provide enough information to get the shirt size from checking the 8 rows of measurements in look-tables.
 
Hey thats not a bad idea...... or mechanically scan with an LED and sensor (led is modulated) and check the reflection...as long as you know how far away the person is...you at least have a 'width'. One one the x axis, and one on the y and you have a depth. good call picasm, with the LED thing!
