Ok, so in a nutshell I'm trying to make something that turns on when not in light, and off when in light, i know that photodiodes can turn on electronics when in light, but is there something that works in reverse?

A photo diode leaks nA to uA in the dark, and conducts up to a few mA in bright light. Use it to control the base current of an NPN transistor and that will switch a few tens to few hundreds of mA. Use a Darlington, and you can get Amps. Use a FET, and you can get Amps. You can configure the output switching device either as ON in the dark, or ON in the light.
