Panasonic digital radio faulty A(2sa)2057

hi folks Panasonic digital radio faulty and tracked it down to this transistor, designed for use in SMPSU's as a high speed switcher although there is no sign of these specs being required within this portable radio. I was thinking something like a BD244 or similar? The specs are as follows..>

What does the transistor do in the radio?.

just looks like it is part of the power supply- looks like it is linear, couple of smt transistors capacitors and diodes etc... nothing fancy in the way of switched mode etc. Possibly used to produce a 5V supply?
The radio itself gives an error F76 Pdet on adaptor input and low battery with voltage applied to battery terminals - the original power supply is also goosed, Oh and the board has darkened round this transistor, which is giving meaningless readings on my meter and unrecognized on my peak tester

As long as it's just a linear regulator, then give it a try.
