Over-current protection for mains related devices

I am almost finished designing a clap on/off circuit for devices connected to the mains with a threshold current of 5A. Any current more would disconnect the device from the mains. I need a circuit diagram for this application.

I think you need a 5A fuse.

Take a look at the ACS712 from Allegromicro devices. (±5A, ±20A, ±50A)

It's a bipolar current sensor generating a DC output voltage with the load current flowing through the primary inputs of the device.

Since it can sense both, AC and DC currents it's zero output voltage at zero Amps is VCC/2.

Using that chip with the appropriate circuit might save you many blown fuses.
