hello
i'm trying to get me a pc based oscilloscope i saw two attractive ones :ELAB-080 and a cheeper pico oscilloscope
how reliable are these things?

There is no way to know precisely.

Think about:

1) ask the manufacturer about the reliability. If they think they have an edge over their competitors, they will be happy to elaborate.

2) You get what you pay for. Unfortunately, the lower cost things are usually the result of design and/or manufacturing shortcuts. Often times it is the reliability that suffers the damage. There are exceptions but dont assume otherwise unless you are sure.

3) OPerate the unit within its specifications to help maximize its reliability.
