How can I connect a single RESISTOR in PARALLEL with a battery(1.5V)?

if u connect a resistor with the terminals of a battery it would be in series

And it would also be in parallel - with only two components like that both apply equally well.

In fact I wouldn't really consider it to be "in series" unless there was something else in the series circuit.

if u connect a resistor with the terminals of a battery it would be in series but if you connect something other than that resistor then the resistor and battery and the other thing would be in parallel.

That was also in my mind...
