Is there a reason why you are not using the 18F2520 internal UART, its easy to use in OSH Basic.

Solved was the issue with crsytal

I recall reading somewhere that using that pin for other than MCLR was impossible but I am not sure for what PICs it was that.

Search in the Microchip forum.

There was a similar issue with one of the pins in PORTE.

No it is not right .... my system works with the MCLR as input. Have a diode for ICSP programs with PICKIT2

The config bit has to be set properly for it to work.

Also the osho does not show MCLR as input in simulation (OSHO bug)
