Need some help with a digital frequency counter.

I need some help in making a simple digital frequency counter for a college project.For this project i could use freescale sk-s12xdp512 -a uC.If someone could give me some ideas about the circuitry of the frequency counter or how should i use the uC for the frequency counter please reply.

thnaks for the reply but i whould like some information about how to use freescale sk-s12xdp512 -a to make a frequency counter.i already figured out that i could use the uC's clock as refference for my counter but i dont know anything about how too connect the uC to the counter's circuit.If someone who is familiar with this tipe of microcontrolers could give me some information i whould apreciate it.Adn sorry for my english.
