I'm looking for a component or discreet that can turn on and off larger watt lamps. An example would be a mw input from a timer IC to turn on and off a 10watt lamp, so basically what I wanna do is amplify my output which can only handle mw's to something that can handle a load like 10.0watts. I did it before with an IC timer but used a reed relay. The reed relay was capable of being able to switch the lamps on and off but I need something faster, so I think what I am looking for is a power transistor, if thats what I need can you guys/gals tell me what to buy? I thought an op-amp would work so I picked up one at RS but I dont think thats what I need. Thanks in advance, Jim

Hi,

assuming you're using a timer circuit again just connect an N-channel MosFet rated for the power of the load.

Using BUZ10 or BUZ11 use a small heat sink for a 10W load.
