So I got a couple 12f629's and i have been trying to flash them, but to no success. I am using icprog with a an olimex pic-P8-1 programmer, which is connected to a usb-to-serial connector on my laptop.

I keep getting a verify failed at 0000h error every time I try to program. i never get this when I read the chip, or even flash with the read data.

anybody have any ideas?

Except JDM's are the worlds most unreliable programmers, and don't normally work off USB/Serial converters.

Best bet is to buy a PICKit2 or PICKit3 - the days of cheap parallel/serial programmers are long over, as are the ports.
