To display an arbitrary name using the Latin Alphabet, you can arrange 35 LED's per letter in a 5 x7 matrix. There are even off the shelf modules that have the 35 LEDs in a single package. Then you enable one column of LEDs, turn on the ones you want and move to the next column. When you get to the end -- you do it all over again -- forever.

If you do this multiplexing fast enough the first column will still have some "brightness" left when you come back to it.

I don't really understand. Do you want to spell your name using an array of LED's, like those scrolling storefront LED signs or do you just want a bunch of LED's in the shape of your name to light up? Cuz the second one is pretty easy.

Depending on what your name is, you may be able to do it with a 7-segment led display... Do you want a static display, or one that changes?? Do you want it to do anything else? More information would be nice!

It's probably not worth building as LED belt buckles are so cheap now. $25

A nice project might be hooking one of these things to your PC serial port. (they appear to be programmed by push button switches on the back)

Hey that sounds like a fun project
