MOSFET gate resistor value

quick question, i am substituting IRFP460 MOSFETS for this inverter circuit:

could someone please show me how to calculate the ideal gate resistor for this application? i know that the gates are voltage driven, so do i even need resistors? please show me how you calculate so i can learn. One other thing, i know i can put MOSFETS in parallel to increase the current handling. Does this affect the value of the gate drive resistor? thank you!!

Usually the datasheet will suggest a value (in your case 4.3 ohms).
But the 4017 in your circuit can only drive about 8 ma. The problem with that is the FET will switch slowly (Nc/.008) or about 26 usec. This will waste some power during the switch time. If you use 2 FETs the turn on turn off time will be twice as long.

where did you find the 4.3 ohms in the datasheet?

The resistor value can be found in the center column of switching speed.
