monitor to composite video input?

hi,

how can i connect a crt monitor with a d-sub (15 pin) connector to a composite video supply without using any electronic components?

thanks

Unless you're very very lucky and have a monitor which can handle standard PAL or NTSC timing (very unlikely) then you have a couple of options.

1. Use a PAL/NTSC to SVGA converter box (around £40-£50)
2. Stick a TV tuner card in your PC which has a composite video input - around £10 from Ebay

re:monitor to composite input?

hi picbits,

can i connect it to the rgb output from a scart cable?

**broken link removed**

Pin No. Function Pin No. Function
1 AUDIO Output Right 2 AUDIO Input Right
3 AUDIO Output Left 4 AUDIO Ground
5 BLUE Ground 6 AUDIO Input Left
7 BLUE 8 Function Switching
9 GREEN Ground 10 Comm Data 2
11 GREEN 12 Comm Data 1
13 RED/Chroma Ground 14 Comm Data Ground
15 RED/Chroma 16 Blanking
17 VIDEO/Sync/Luminance Ground 18 Blanking Ground
19 VIDEO/Sync/Luminance Output 20 VIDEO/Sync/Luminance input
21 Common Ground

As above, if your monitor supports the PAL or NTSC scan rates then it may be possible but very unlikely.

Here is something that someone built to do what you're after doing.

ELM - NTSC-VGA Scan Converter

Without more information on the monitor, its a bit tricky to tell you any more.

Any chance of a picture of the ratings plate ? Its highly unusual for an old PC monitor to specify NTSC and PAL on the ratings plate.

Are there any other connections other than the 15 pin connection for the monitor ?

hi picbits,

it has no other connections, i will go from here on your advice

thanks for your help.

p.s.you can reply again if you find another solution

thanks.

Post a pic of the monitor backplate and one of the oldies on here (aka Nigel) might recognise it as he does a lot of TV repairs.
