missing/extra pulse detector

I have a problem that maybe someone can help me with.
I have two pulsed inputs, lets say A and B. I need to check to be sure that these two inputs alternate ABABAB etc. . For each A one LED would light, for each B a different LED would light. If either a sequence of AAB or BBA is detected the LED that was last lit would stay lit and the circuit would quit oscillating.
The pulse is 5v, the duration of the pulse is very short .2ms or less. The off time between pulses is roughly 500 times the pulse width.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
 
There may be simpler solutions, but this first came to mind:
