Microchip descriptions

I'm confused about the names, which the PICmicro chips have.

What does they mean, e.g.

I/SP
04/SP
04/SO
/JW
04I/P
04I/L
/L
/P
I/PT

- or does it matter which type of programmer I should use?

Are there some kind of survey of all descriptions?
