Micro replacement

Hi guys,

Sorry I have no experience in the Microcontroller field, But want to make this because it's funny:
MiniPOV3 - Unending POV

Here's the schematic which uses a ATtiny2313 AVR microcontroller:
MiniPOV3 - Unending POV

Can I simply use an ATMEGA (for instance ATMEGA16) instead of the said microcontroller? Do I need to change the instructions too? Any other change if needed?

Any idea please?
