hi im currently doing a wireless LED Dot Matrix Display

i would like to ask whether a MAX 232 IC from Maxim is compatibly able to convert voltages from my computer to the input of an AVR Microcontroller.

Thanks=)

Yes, it will. Just read the datasheet (with some knowledge about your PC voltage levels).

Maybe not. The original MAX232 chip was a 5V part. If your AVR is running on a lower voltage, like say 3.3V, then you have to find a member of the MAX family that can make RS-232 levels from a 3.3V supply.
