MAGELLAN GPS 3000 XL

I have a GPS 3000 XL module. But the ribbon cable between the keypad and the main unit is broken. I want know if there is anyway to connect this module to my computer via any microcontroller like PIC. The GPS circuit is connected to the display unit using a ribbon cable, but cannot make out which wire is Tx or Rx.
