Looking for car stereo steering wheel adaptor circuit

I would like to get the circuit diagram of a steering wheel control adaptor to a radio disk/ is there a generic type or it must be specific to the car/stereo?

I THINK GM just presented different resistances to the GM radio for the few functions that are on the steering wheel. That made it simple and made the number of wires needed to go to the radio equal to 2.

That's the way cruise controls work, too. However, what Ford does will not work in GMC or Toyota, for example.
