light depended circut together with its power supply circuit

i want to design a light depended circuit together whith its power supply.i preffer to use LDR as the sensor and LED as the indicator.i need an assistance from all of you to make such a circuit.

How does this work? Do you lower the sensor into the vessel until the index of refraction changes?
