Life counter using 2 7 segment displays (help please)

Hi, i was wondering how i would go about making a life counter for magic the gathering. I was thinking of using two 7-segment displays and some sort of up down buttons. I am a beginner at electronics and don't know how to go about to do this.

Any help would be appreciated!
