Learning UMTS and GSM messages that are transferred in network

Hi,

I'm using a paltform which allows me to record the messages that are transferred between the mobile and the base station.

For example, the mobile sends an RRC connection request to the base station and receives a response in return with RRC connection configuration.

I'd like to understand all those messages.
Is there a place in network which focuses in explaining these messages?

The ETSI controls the standards. Look at ETSIand you can find all of the specifications ever published for GSM.
